Pure World of Dance Season 1 Contestant Profile: Du-Shaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall

Division: Upper
Genre: Hip-Hop
From: Las Vegas, NV

And we have another familiar face on this inaugural season of World of Dance: Du-Shaunt Stegall, better known as “Fik-Shun”.  Like several other contestants this season, he’s got some experience in the world of reality dance competition shows.  At the tender age of 16, he tried out for Live to Dance, the one-and-done dance competition show created by Paula Abdul back in 2011.  Fun fact? He and judge Ne-Yo actually attended the same high school.

He made it all the way to the semi-finals before being eliminated.  Fun fact? That first (and only!) season was won by none other than WOD Junior division competitors D’Angelo & Amanda.

Then in 2013, he tried out for So You Think You Can Dance season 10:

This time, being a little bit older and wiser came in handy, and he actually ended up winning the season alongside his partner, Amy.  Here’s one of their more memorable routines:

Since winning his season, he’s returned twice as an all-star – here he is partnering season 11’s Zack for a hip-hop number:

And for last season’s SYTYCD, he mentored and partnered eventual winner Leon, aka “Kida”:

Since then, he’s also made several appearances at some of World of Dance (the brand) competitions – here he is at last year’s competition in Hawaii:

Court’s thoughts: Besides having an obvious polish to his dancing from having a LOT of televised competition experience, I think one way Fik-Shun is going to be a major player in the upper division is that his dancing is rooted in more of a “street” style, but he’s also picked up more of a stage presence than we typically see from hip-hop dancers who honed their style while being street performers. He’s got the best of both worlds, and will likely go far this season!
