Parade Magazine Introduces World of Dance Season 3 Contestants!!

This is a nice article which introduces 15 of the 54 acts that will be competing on the upcoming season. I’ve put a short excerpt below, but click the link to read the whole article in Parade. Most of us will recognize this first group – every season they’ve had people competing on the show.

Dancetown Divas

Hometown: Miami, FL
Members: 15
Ages: 12-15
Style: Ballroom
Division: Junior Team
Bio: The Dancetown Divas, put together by choreographer Manny Castro, originate from the same Miami dance studio as World of Dance alumni Miami All-Stars and D’Angelo & Amanda from Season 1 and Jonas & Ruby and The Untouchables from Season 2. Individually, these girls have accomplished a lot, and they’re looking to prove that they belong on the big stage.

Derion & Madison

Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Members: 2
Ages: 23-28
Style: Contemporary
Division: Upper
Bio: This duo of extremely athletic dancers are known for doing the unexpected in their self-choreographed dance routines. They met while touring with Diavolo and instantly became fast friends, describing themselves as “twins separated at birth.” Their unique style, technique and ability to pull off the impossible, all while making it look easy, makes them a force to be reckoned with.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Who is Set to Compete on World of Dance Season 3??

I’m sure many of you have seen the new promo for World of Dance Season 3 that came out a few days before Christmas (when I was on vacay). Between that video and twitter, we have a few ideas as to who some of the competitors are – I am NOT good at naming dance teams from this video, but there are other eagle eyes out there who are. Here’s the promo:

Not the face, JLo, not the face… 🙂 Anyway, can you pick out any of the dancers in the promo?? They look amazing. Here are a couple that have been named thus far:

So, Kings United (India), All Ready (Korea) and Jorge Valcárcel/Jonathan Troncoso (Peru) are three of our competitors this upcoming season. Kings United are a male hip hop team from India – World Hip Hop Dance Champions in fact! Since there are several of them, they are likely in the “Upper Team” category. I think, provided they don’t change the categories again.

All Ready appears to be a female duo from Korea. I don’t see a stated style on their facebook page, but they definitely have a very strong ballroom/latin vibe and they have a Salsa competition post.. Derek is going to love this duo – fantastic dancing, from what I’ve seen.

All Ready Facebook

The third tweet says, when translated, that two Peruvian dancers “captivated” JLo while competing on the upcoming season. It links to an article about the dancers, specifically Jorge Valcárcel, which says:

Jorge Valcárcel is a prominent Peruvian dancer, was crowned as world champion of dance competitions in different genres such as salsa , danced in El Gran Show by Gisela Valcárcel and is currently in full preparation for the competition in Los Angeles, United States, along with Jonathan Troncoso.

These two are pretty amazing Salsa dancers!! Unfortunately, I’m not sure which social media belongs to them.

Pure World of Dance Season 1 Contestant Profile: Eva Igo

People who have been following PureDWTS for a few years now know that a couple of us have a real problem with contemporary dance. You pretty much have to be mind blowingly amazing to impress us – and, speaking for myself, I generally don’t care for it. It all tends to look the same in dancers other than someone like Allison Holker. Angsty flailing all tends to look the same after a while and it’s…boring.

But that can NOT be said for Eva Igo. This tiny little beast is an Allison Holker in training. This girl did my kind of contemporary in the Qualifiers. She’s got an edge to her which I really appreciated, and she kept that edge a bit light. Her second dance didn’t really improve on her first one and she needs to switch it up a bit – but we have to remember that she is a true youngster and hasn’t lived enough life just yet. And life experience tends to make the contemporary dancer. As long as she doesn’t go the angsty-flailing route that many dance shows love so much (looking at you, “So you think you can dance”…:::yawn:::), she could be a favorite for a long time to come.

Eva is a 14 year old dancer from St. Paul and she dances at the Larkin Dance Studio. According to the “Kid Dancers Wiki”:

Eva did her first solo at the age of 5 and was securing national and regional titles by the age of 7.

Eva appeared in Season 3 Episode 11 of the hit reality show Dance Moms, entitled Camouflaged Maneuvers. She and her team placed 1st against the ALDC’s “Don’t Ask Just Tell” and Eva placed 1st to Maddie Ziegler as well as receiving the highest score in the competition.

The site goes on to list a surprising number of dances/competitions. I didn’t expect to find much on Eva, since she is so young, but there are quite a few competition videos out there, since youtube is as old as she is. 🙂 Here’s one from age 11:

Here’s a much more recent competition “improv” video – which I assume means she’s freestyling. She’s showing a bit of that edge here that I appreciate.

Here’s a video of Eva dancing with a partner. Not bad. A bit young for this style, but I know this is how it goes.

Pure World of Dance Season 1 Contestant Profile: Ian Eastwood and the Young Lions

I think we’ve already discussed my love for the cutie Ian Eastwood, but who is this guy and where did he come from? I just love his style and I think NeYo nailed it when he said that he is like a “taller, whiter, Bruno Mars”…and I love me some Bruno Mars.

Ian went to a convention at age 10 and met Nappytabs…and at first they weren’t impressed, but he won them over by the end of the convention. But even earlier than that, as he says in his website’s bio, he knew he wanted to dance:

When N’sync was getting big I’d see them on award shows and try and mimic them with my friends. We’d make a routine, get the boombox out (yes a boom box a.k.a. the thing that played songs from a circular disk as well as radio.) and show my parents. Eventually my parents thought – “hey, our boy isn’t too bad” so they threw me in my first dance class the week of Halloween. I remember it was Halloween because my teacher Mr. Sydney wore a rainbow afro wig and taught the choreography from “Thriller”. When I walked out of the class my Ma asked me what I thought and I said, “Mama I wanna do this for the rest of my life.”

Ian was 13 when Youtube came along and he started putting up videos and gathering a following. But his career really got started at age 16 when he found himself traveling all over the world teaching dance and choreographing for a variety of artists. Before you know it, “Young Lions” was created by his family which represented “Yound and hungry” youth. His bio says there is even a clothing line!!

I could go on, but it’s easiest for you to visit his website and read all about him. 🙂

Here’s his latest, I think, and appropriately enough it’s set to Bruno Mars “24k Magic” – Love it!

I love all the screaming girls in this one – imagine what a good showing on WoD will do for him!

And, finally, here’s their performance for the qualifiers of WoD, but shot and edited by Ian himself. He likes creative control. He reminds of Derek a good bit, with the directing, etc.

He’s getting some media as well; here’s an interview Vogue posted a while ago with Access Hollywood Live.

Pure World of Dance Season 1 Contestant Profile: “The Posse”

I loved The Posse on World Of Dance last night. They are a Contemporary team of girls from San Jose, California. Their names are Jadyn Hernandez, Priscilla Tom, Kina Siu, Janette Solorzano, Sydney Centeno, Emily Joe, and Jana Tsai. For being so young, they have already worked with H&M and artists like Justin Bieber and Sia. They are also National Grand Champions of the Radix Dance Convention. Be sure to follow The Posse at You Tube and Instagram.

Pure World of Dance Season 1 Contestant Profile: “Pasión”

Wasn’t Pasión amazing last night on World Of Dance? I love Flamenco dancing and lots of passion, so I was in heaven. 🙂 So, who is Pasión? They are a group made up of four dancers: Timo Nuñez, Fanny Ara, Defne Enc, and Genevieve Guinn. Their group is named after Timo Nuñez’s show which opened in 2012 as a tribute to his late grandmother. Pasión is breaking frontiers to bring contemporary flamenco to the American stage and now here they come to bringing their passionate talent to World Of Dance. Note that Timo Nuñez has been on “So You Think You Can Dance” in the past.

Pure World of Dance Season 1 Contestant Profile: The Amazing And Creative “Quick Style”

Wow! I was so impressed with “Quick Style” last night on World Of Dance. I loved all of their creative, cool, and never before seen moves. I also loved how they took risks of doing a Hip Hop dance to Dolly Parton‘s “Jolene”! Amazing! So, who is “Quick Style”? Quick Style is a trio group from Oslo, Norway. They’ve been together for 12 years. They once used to be so embarrassed about dancing, they would tell their friends and family that they were at other places when they practiced. According to their website, their mission is to inspire, motivate, and share talents at all levels without judgment. Check out some of their really creative work below. I can’t get enough!

New ‘World Of Dance’ Sneak Peek Into Week 2….Nick Daniels (Contestant Profile Added)

Coming up tomorrow night on “World Of Dance”…..Nick Daniels! Beautiful….

And here is more on Nick Daniels from Hollywood Life….

Nick Daniels, 18, is bringing in the contemporary dance like we’ve never seen before. The teenager has spent his life learning dance in his mother’s New Jersey studio, but recently moved to Miami, Fla. to train at Stars Dance Studio, which highly respected coaches, Victor Smalley and Angel Armas. And clearly, it has paid off. He danced to One Republic‘s “Secrets” for Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and Ne-Yo on World of Dance, and it looks like he’ll definitely be moving on.

Below are more Videos of Nick. Note that Nick was once on “Dance Moms”….
