World of Dance, Season 4 – Week Seven Live Blog

The Duels Continue!! The previews look exciting, but how is it possible that tonight is the last of the duels? What are we missing? Did all the levels have duels?

T-minus 20 minutes!

So, when are they going back to their legit scoring system – the system that DWTS should have been doing for years?

Here we go.

Good advice from tWitch. Love JLo complimenting Derek’s outfit after he has insecurity about his shoe game.

Okay, they are wrapping up the UPPER division duels. Perhaps the ad was unclear. I was starting to wonder.

I don’t think they’ve been more difficult than previous seasons – I’m still not sure this season is up to par with previous.

First up: Jake/Chau versus Josh/Erica. Ten bucks says JLo picks the couple because she’s a sap. Contemporary – you’re going to have to be amazing to impress me.

Jake/Chau up first. Interesting start – different which I like. Very good. This is actually a stellar routine that is not relying on fake emotion/angst. Okay that was really good.

Derek says incredible – interesting and innovative. Liked the transitions and lifts. Twitch would like more side by side, Jennifer agrees. I think they’re wrong – the side by side in contemporary is over done. Ne-Yo says he wants to speak on the small margin for error – he saw a little off time. He has to judge it.

Josh/Erica are next. They’re hooking themselves together, which is slightly terrifying to everyone in the room. Wow. Sharp. I like that both pairs are not falling back on contemporary cliche. AKA fake angst. This is a marionette act, very cool. That was quite good. This one will be a tough call.

Ne-Yo says it’s very interesting. He stills thinks she’s too soft. Derek disagrees. A lot. πŸ™‚ Derek says it was so creative and so interesting. His butt was clenched. πŸ™‚ Yeah, this dance was right up his alley. Jennifer says it was risky and that it forces them into a box, but she thinks they pulled it off amazingly. She’s not sure they did all they could do to win the dule. Twitch says they have to think about thinking about things that will pop. Great Job.

Derek: Josh/Erica
Jennifer: Jake/Chau (I was right)
Ne-Yo: Jake/Chau

Not sure I agree with that one. I think I’m on Derek’s side on this one.

Love the BTS thing about TikTok – Derek is hilarious. Yes, I probably would kill him.

Oxygen Versus Geometrie Variable is the next duel. Right now I vote Oxygen. Although, I really like Geometrie Variable as well, but it might be too subtle for TV.

They’re all giving face, of course. Geometrie Variable up first.Off to a great start, not quite so rigid and much more flow than their first routing. Still Very intriguing. Liked the chin/shotgun move. Wow. That was quite good.

Ne-Yo has to go out and high five them all. Loves the Chinography. Ne-Yo has zero critiques. Jennifer had wondered how often they could see that but they did a hundred new things. She says it was surprising and really great. Derek says they’ve never had that before as an entire routine. They proved that it could hold up over the course of the show.

Oxygen…commercial. Okay here we go. High energy, tight. I would have given more thought to the shirt colors and who was going to be where. And then they did on the train moves. They’re in rainbow formation. Love the slow down portion. That was really good, but I don’t know if it was up to DV. They went away from what made them unique last time and Ne-Yo points that out. Jennifer seems to agree with Ne-Yo. Derek says they took out the special sauce. I agree. I agree with all that. tWitch thinks it was dope – it was, but was it dope enough? This is right up his alley.

Jennifer: GV
Derek: GV
Ne-Yo: GV

I agree with that pick, sadly. I really loved Oxygen’s first round so much, but they just didn’t bring it as hard this time.

Twitch now has to decide who from the Upper Division is going to compete again for a final spot in the competition.

Redemption Round!! Twitch goes back stage to pick who will get another shot. Your competitors are:

Luca and Alessandra
The Rise
Styles and Emma
Josh and Erica
Oxygen

Damn, this is a tough call. I think he’ll pick The Rise and Luca/Alessandra. Of course, those are my favorites, so…

tWitch picks….Styles and Emma. And…Oxygen. Wow. I got that totally wrong. Very happy for Styles and Emma, but I think Oxygen was probably the wrong pick. I’m miss my white haired guy. πŸ™

I think Derek agrees with me. πŸ™‚ Rooting for Style and Emma at this point. We’ll see. Yep, Derek was with me.

Style and Emma first. tThe splits are unbelievable. Much more balletic this time. They are killing it. His pirouette was excellent. Yeah, that was really good.

Next up, Oxygen. They are dressed in a way that makes me hopeful. Okay, that opening was stellar. The outfits are totally part of the dance. That was brilliant. Just amazing. Sheet.

All judges wondering why they didn’t do that the first time. Derek’s kinda mad because they’re going to have to lose one now. Agreed. Jennifer says you only have here and now and you can’t take it for granted. You have to attack every time.

This is unfortunately a no brainer, IMO. It should be Oxygen, although I want it to be Styles and Emma because of their style being so rare. Love that shot of Derek scanning the room.

The winner of redemption:
It’s unanimous. Oxygen. Use, that one was sadly obvious.

Next week, the Juniors duel. Hopefully they’re not as infuriating. But I suppose they will be. πŸ™‚

The Duels!! I already suspect that I’m going to be mad before the end of the night. πŸ™‚ We’ll see!!

T-minus 30 minutes!

Damn you, AGT….another week of crying at this dang show. The Spoken Word act that ended tonights AGT rivals Lin Manuel Miranda – I can give no higher compliment.

Apparently the big stage with the audience is the round AFTER the duels.

Twitch gets to pick who heads to redemption. I trust him more than Jennifer. πŸ™‚ And maybe more than the other two as well. And apparently it’s the Upper Division going tonight. Not a fan of Jennifer’s outfit. Love Derek’s and Ne-yo’s though. Read more..

World of Dance, Season 4 – Week FIVE Live Blog

Can’t believe it’s week 5 already. Tonight is the call backs and only four teams are making it to the duels. I have no favorites, as I recall, in the call back group. That’s the problem of course – there’s not been anyone memorable yet this season. I hope the duels punch up the competition.

I also don’t think that this season is that markedly different from the previous ones – the qualifiers are the same as always, they just happen earlier in the dancers minds because they’re expecting producers, not the judges. It does sound like the duels have serious potential – if the judges are deciding the dance battles, then the contestants can’t pick who they perceive to be the weakest to try to eliminate them. But the judges need to not fall into the same trap – match them well and make them true battles. I guess we will see…

T-minus 29 minutes.

Damn, AGT – make me cry EVERY week.

Here we go – impress me people!! By the way, Love Jennifer’s hair and outfit.

The Rise is up first with my favorite white haired guy. πŸ™‚ I haven’t kept track of how many acts are in each division – if I had I could probably predict what was going to happen.

They’re off to a great start. Derek just made a “mistake” face. They’re a tiny bit sloppy, but I love them.

Jennifer says it was compelling and she was impressed. Derek and Ne-Yo said they did better. And Ne-Yo loves my guy too. πŸ™‚ He does bring the energy and he has some kind of crazy charisma. And he’s just so cute. They do comment that there’s still some need for a pop here and there. They are a sharp looking group. And the judges did say they nailed it. I’m rooting for them.

Project 21 ain’t going to cut it, they got the short edit and little discussion. Props were always bad on DWTS, but apparently they did okay. Even if they do make it through here, they’ll lose the duels.

Avante Gard is up next…did the outfits. Also get the short edit. Yeah I remember this group – I like they for how different they are. Different music choices, different movements.

Jennifer says much better than last time – the whole routine made sense. Derek says the dancing wasn’t as strong this time. Ne-Yo is with Derek. They went too far in one way. They lost two judges and only gained Jennifer.

CBACTION is up next. These are the guys who had an injury right before dancing. They’ve adjusted more to being short a guy. Hopefully tightened it up.

They are getting a very short edit as well. So short I can’t really comment. Derek says there are still moments lacking impact. Ne-Yo liked it better, said they were quality dancers. Jennifer thinks they’re good, strong dancers, but she’s still not sure.

Next up, another girl group, The Difference. Highly edited again, but I”m liking what I see, seems tight.

Jennifer says they have heart and were better than last time. Ne-Yo likes the story. Derek still needs more but he loves them as dancers.

Man, they are zooming through the dancers and it’s not even 20 after the hour.

GRVMNT is up next…do I remember them from the first time around?? They’re cute, but I don’t remember. Β They’re getting a longer edit, much more discussion before they dance.

Very tight. Nice sync. Good energy. Derek is moving in a positive way. πŸ™‚ Yah, they’re killing it. Just the tightest group of the night. And the bridge was great. Well done. Loved the ending as well.

Jennifer says bring that EVERY time. Much better. They still have a ways to go, she says. They killed it. Β Derek loved the transitions (agreed). Ne-Yo points out the youngest dude – that’s the energy they need. Jennifer says whoever comes up front is whoever is killing it the most.

Pumpfidence is up next – they got highly edited in the first round, I don’t expect this one to be much better. Β There’s just not much to this in terms of actual dancing. Their sync wasn’t that great.

Jennifer says the choreography was better than last time. Derek says there were times they weren’t together, but better than the first time. Ne-Yo says that they have a long way to go, but better than the first time. Β Jennifer makes the comment about them needing to be able to compete with everyone else. Β I agree.

Derek is too funny. They all are, actually. This show has given me a whole new appreciation for Jennifer and she needs to thank Derek and Ne-Yo. πŸ™‚

“Stars are meant to shine, Derek” LOL

Show Stoppers up next! That’s yellow. Wow, sharp. I like that they’re all women doing this style of dance.. Slight misalignment there, but the sync is good. Not sure there were enough wow moments

Jennifer and Ne-Yo say they are a lot stronger. Jennifer says they need more surprises. Derek says they started strong, but by the end they had stayed in the same zone.

Latin dancers 305 are up next. Β Are there any ballroom/latin acts on the show this year? Not many.

Go Derek, go! πŸ™‚ That’s a whole lot of dancers. That they dance so well as a team is amazing. Dang, this is fast. Good shapes, good overall dancing. I feel like there might be too many of them.

Derek thought it was fun and the song was so hype. He’s on the fence. Jennifer says much better, could see the dancing better. Not sure they’re up to par the whole time. Ne-yo points out one girl and tells everyone else to match her level.

By my count, there is only one team left and they edited all but two or three, so this one ought to be good. Maybe?

Derek the little brother. πŸ™‚ He is a photo bomber, for sure.

The Young Cast are up next. Junior team from Canada. They’ve been trying since season 2 – hope they make it.

Like the opening – like a flower. First actual lift of the night? Still a bit low energy but they sync is good and they’re pretty tight. And right when I say that they go double speed and it’s pretty effective. Ending similar to the beginning and that was good as well.

Jen has ninja vibes. All three judge say “much better”. Formation were beautiful, felt strong, clean connected – all by Jennifer. Ne-Yo loved the intro picture as well. Derek the downer says he doesn’t want to see the lift – they saw them set up. Needs to come out of nowhere as a surprise. But judges over all are very positive. I think they should make it.

Okay, I think they’ll pick The Rise, The Young Cast, GRVMNT and…..Show Stoppers? Β Not sure about that last one, but that’s my guess right now.

They judges do a So You Think You Can Dance style elimination discussion.

Show Stoppers, Young Cast, The Difference all in the room together and only one of these three are going to make it. Β And that makes me wrong with one guess. But I was right with The Young Cast!!

Next, Pumpfidence are in the room with Avante Gard Collective and both groups get eliminated.

Next to enter the room are The Rise and 305. Β Jennifer says they’re not sure 305 are ready – same for The Rise. Hmmmm…

Both groups make it through! Β 305 is a surprise, but I’m very happy for them.

Only one spot left – CBACTION, Project 21 and GRVMNT are the last three standing. GRVMNT was on my list. And I was right!!

So the four groups making it through are:

GRVMNT
305
The Rise
The Young Cast

I called three out of the four – not too bad. Next week the duels!! I’m looking forward to it – how about you??

Week 4 already!! T-minus 30 minutes till showtime. Let’s hope that the talent is higher quality this week. I saw lots of commentary that the dancing wasn’t up to par last week – I tend to agree, but every season has a week like that. Hopefully, last week was the only week. πŸ™‚

It’s time….love that lead in with the very handsome Derek. πŸ™‚ Final batch of dancers in the qualifiers.

Up first is Geometri Variable – I posted their video earlier in the week. They are amazing. And they’re funny too. πŸ™‚

I found them mesmerizing and exhausting in a good way. I love French. Read more..

World of Dance, Season 4 – Week THREE Live Blog

Week three already!! Let’s goooooooo!! T-minus 20 minutes…

That Derek/JLo “You Can Really Dance” video still cracks me up. πŸ™‚

And I love Derek and Ne-Yo’s chemistry.

First up is Keagan – 13 years old from Oklahoma! And of course she’s a contemporary dancer. What are they teaching kids these days if other kids don’t know where Oklahoma is?

Boy, she’s extremely bendy…JLo will likely rave but I’m not feeling that much from her other than gymnastics. She’s alright…very bendy.

Ne-Yo wants to know when she learned to be bendy. Derek thinks she’s non-Gumby like. πŸ™‚ Derek apparently called her an alien. πŸ™‚ JLo says it’s about the story and says they didn’t see all of it, but of course she thinks there’s more there.

Of course they all say yes. I just want to see more from contemporary – it all looks the same anymore.

Oh, yes, I want to see Derek be bendy. Yes please.

You know, this season really isn’t all that different, since they go straight to the duels after this round. Only difference is that there is no audience and they’re in a warehouse (a very upscale warehouse). I’m sure all the dancers had to make it through a couple rounds of producers prior to this round, so…no difference.

Little Salsa babies?? Wheee! Antonio and Maria – they’re 11 and 13. And they get severely edited, which bugs the hell out of me. Derek thinks they haven’t clicked yet. Ne-Yo says they need more maturity. Both men give them no’s. And they go home. πŸ™

Next dapper tappers from the Netherlands. Avant Garde – apparently they all have their own, different style. Heavily edited and I can’t tell if I like it or not. Ne-Yo is a yes, Jennifer is a no, and Derek says “call backs”.

Next is Chibi Unity – a fusion group from Japan…and they go crazy to see the judges. πŸ™‚

They didn’t expect the judges and they are really excited – per their interpreter.

I love this damn song. I dig the head nods. They seem to be a fusion of contemporary and hip hop. I think I like it. Not as clean as some groups, but I like them. I say call backs.

Jennifer says the choreography was a stand out. Derek felt the emotion, but the big set up in the middle didn’t pay off. I would agree. Ne-Yo says it started a little slow (disagree), but once the energy picked up he was thoroughly impressed.

Ne-Yo – Yes
Derek – Yes

They either edited Jennifer out or she didn’t vote since the two men put the group through. Ne-Yo tells them to take the notes.

Derek and Ne-Yo are the ultimate partners. πŸ™‚

Josh and Erica are an Urban Dance duo. Erica was on last season and didn’t make it through because she lacked chemistry. So now she has a new partner that she’s also dating, so of course they have chemistry. Yeah, you might think that, but it’s not always true. Good luck!

Not a fan of the outfits. Shallow, I know. Derek recognizes Erica – I’m sure it has nothing to do with how much she looks like his girlfriend.

Someone tell me the difference between “urban” and “hip hop”? This is slower, but it looks like contemporary fused with hip hop. He seems sharper than she is. Yeah, making that face don’t make you “urban” dude.

JLo says they have “amazing” chemistry, they have some great moves and they’re extremely powerful.

Ne-Yo says they’re quality dances, but everyone here is quality dancers. There needs to be something more. He hit so hard that it softened her – absolutely agree.

Derek says they have a lot of tools, but they need to utilize all the tools they have and they could have even a better formula.

Ne-Yo says call backs.
Jennifer says yes (of course).
Derek says yes as well. I’m with Ne-Yo on this one. They were good, but I’m still waiting to be blown away.

So…next up is…the Break Ninjas! I like their rules. πŸ™‚ Work hard, have fun and…I forgot the third one. They’re cute. Little dudes are so cute. Ten years old.

I didn’t know Jennifer is from the Bronx. :::smirk:::

Hand stans into some serious break dancing. Pretty tight. Nice leap. This is pretty fun. A little sloppy during babalu’s solo. So cute, though. Severely edited this dance as well. This one of the things that seriously bugs about this show.

Jennifer and Ne-Yo are somewhat raving. Derek throws a bit of cold water on it.

Derek and Ne-Yo say no – suggest that they come back next year. They do need work, but so cute.

Next up: a group that’s been here twice before and haven’t made it. First time they’ve made it to this stage. Canadians under the name of the Young Cast. they are pretty tight. Great in sync. Like their lines and their diagonals. That second diagonal, a couple of the guys got out of line to do something else. Made it seem sloppy.

Jennifer questions if they can compete, wonders if they can do more than formations. The other two judges agree. Ne-Yo wants more stacatto. Jennifer would like more dancing, less pictures, more groove and more musicality.

Derek says Yes.
Jennifer says Call Back, and Ne-Yo agrees.

Kinda weird how their comments don’t seem to mimic their decision.

The Judges getting a group photo taken – Derek is hot, as usual. πŸ™‚

MDC3 is up next – a contemporary trio (interesting). One of the mom’s had breast cancer and they talk about how hard it was. She beat it, but then got it again. I can’t imagine. The kids try to be positive around her.

Wow nice lift in rehearsal. They’ve been dancing together for 7 years as a trio – that’s amazing and unusual.

Oooo..complicated first hold. This is different. I like it. Great lifts. And different ones with a trio. And that last bit was amazing.

Jennifer says it was very clear to her, all three are super strong. Derek loves the transitions, how connected and different they are. Ne-Yo felt it.

Jennifer says yes.
Derek says yes.
Ne-Yo doesn’t say a word or they edit it out for time since they only need two.

Best contemporary act so far this season. Because it’s different – they showed me different lifts and combinations/transitions from what I’ve seen before. Thank god. Contemporary is getting so overdone, as is hip hop at times. That’s the curse of a show like this one.

Show Stoppers from Miami are up next with Jazz/Funk. This looks like it could be interesting. Outfits are kinda different. I like the all women teams – I root for them.

Great tribute to JLo and her representing of Latinas. They’re off to a great start. the fact that there are a ton of them is working for them. Great sync.Sexier than the male groups, in my opinion. they got some Salsa in there as well. It’s slowing down a bit in the middle towards the end.

Jennifer says they need to hit it harder, and thinks it might be because of their outfits. Says they have to feel the emotion. They have the passion but they have to get the skill up there. Ne-Yo agrees. He adds that the name sets them up. Derek says the choreography was kind of one-note (not his words).

Ne-Yo says he’s on the fence, says Call Back.
Derek also says call back, and Jennifer agrees.

Well, that’s the show. Thoughts? I was only truly impressed by the contemporary trio, MDC3, but I also liked the Show Stoppers, although I understand the judges comments. Everyone else was just okay – and since they eliminated quite a few this episode that’s to be expected. Hopefully it will build next week!

World of Dance Season 3, the Finale – Live Blog!!

It’s time!!!! Tonight we find out who wins the third season!! Who do you think it’s going to be??

Apparently, each finalist is going to dance twice – dancer(s) with the highest average wins. Our contestants are:

The Kings
Ellie & Ava
Briar Nolet
VPeepz

and, according to E!, the Wild Card Winner is Unity LA. We find out in just a minute. πŸ™‚

I wonder if WoD realizes that Unity LA winning wasn’t shown last week.

This opening number is really fun, I think. shows all the teams kinda working together. And it went from really fun to really cool at the end.

I met Derek (for the third or forth time) the other night and he’s just as he was shown on the show. Goofball.

Charity is also on tour with Derek, currently. She’s brilliant. Looks like we’re getting Derek, Charity, Andres and Michael’s dance first. Nice package. I think i posted the dance the other day – it’s brilliant.

Love the Ne-Yo million dollars bit, but really love the choreography bit.

So we’re going to get Ne-Yo now? Why are they front loading the show with the guests??

Eeeee!! Ian Eastwood!! I LOVE HIM. This number doesn’t compare to Derek’s number, but I guess that’s no surprise as he’s mainly a singer and he has a broken foot. Ahem, we’re going to talk to the guys but not the girl??

I guess they don’t want to interrupt the competition because now we have the LAB. And this is a super cool number. Really tight. They were my favorites from the last two years and that’s why.

Wow…Jennifer, that dress is HOT. Wow. Didn’t realize it until she stood up.

Okay, Scott just said ONE performance stands between the contestants and the prize. Hmmm…I read two, but okay.

Are Ellie & Ava going first or are we doing bits on everyone? Okay, they’re doing a bit on everyone, now talking about The Kings. I’m hoping they throw a bit of actually bollywood into their number. I love that. Now Unity LA…love me some Zack and Ashley. And you all know I’m a sucker for talented kids and those are the VPeeps…man, tough call tonight. I would be happy with anyone who wins, including Briar Nolet (and you know I’m not a contemporary fan unless it’s really different and special.

The four of them mentoring together? This should be interesting. Hope Derek gets a word in edgewise. Love the Boot(s).

Briar up first. The answer is no, Derek doesn’t really get to talk much. πŸ™‚ But they give good advice to Briar. She can’t be all tricks, she needs to feel it.

Started out great, but I don’t know if this has the impact that her last dance did. Yeah, not really feeling that dance too much. It was great, but not really finale worthy. You’ll note none of the judges stood up.

Ne-Yo calls her a superhero and says she’s so strong and has so much power. Ne-Yo talks about her journey and says she’s now on fire. Jennifer says there’s a level of danger to her routines. Derek liked the scream and said it jolted him in a good way. He says she’s defied the odds and she should be proud. Jennifer said her intention got muddier toward the end, and I agree with that. Derek says she’s an incredible athlete and he wanted the raw emotion and he felt it.

VPeepz up next. They already look sharp during mentoring! Hmmm…if this were DWTS, I’d guess the VPeepz would win because they asked that question about The Kings. And it makes me wonder if The Kings are going to win or not. And Derek didn’t talk again.

Love the colorful outfits, love the music, love the energy. Great tricks in the middle. It almost feels like it slows down a bit in the middle though, and not in the usual great way. Seems like it was shorter than others too.

Derek says it was so dope, the synchronicity, the energy was great. He clearly loved it. Jennifer says they should be proud. Jennifer talks about the mentoring and how it was dying a bit in the middle, she loves their precision but doesn’t say that they solved that and I’m not sure they did. Jennifer says it could have used more transitions near the end. Ne-Yo says it might have been too much of a good thing and Derek looks at him like he’s on crack. And Ne-Yo admits that he’s being ridiculously nit-picky. And says they should be proud.

I gotta say, I love these judges. They are so funny and so fun together.

Unity LA up next. Derek points out that they had the second highest score of the night. Once again Ne-Yo and Jennifer do ALL the talking during the mentoring…and we’re seeing them more during the judging. Come on, Derek is the only judge that has competed at several levels. Give him his due people.

I’ve not been blown away by anyone yet, let’s see if they can change that. Beautiful start. Love the music. Loved the opening picture. Love how they’re featuring multiple dancers. That was very beautiful. Very beautiful.

Derek says it was a work of art – agreed. He calls it a Monet, it was so artistic. Jennifer says it was fully conceived and a gorgeous, artful piece. Derek says it’s sensational. Ne-Yo says they’re the total package, they are the icing on the cake. Jennifer says she enjoyed them from the beginning, but she was missing joy before, but tonight they came alive, there was beauty in their passion, she felt their joy.

Of the three acts we’ve seen so far, I’m leaning Unity LA. Ya’ll??

The Kings are up next and they are super raw. So, Derek is doing all the BTS video and none of the talking during the mentoring. Why? Because JLo ie executive producer, would be my guess. OOOOHHH, Derek speaks one sentence during mentoring!!

Were the Kings taking too much for granted or not realizing they were the front runner?? I suspect all this drama about them not being ready might mean they win. But then, Ellie and Ava are going last…

Anyway, time for the Kings to dance. Okay this is super cool so far. I love the dialogue in the song. This is very Game of Thrones. Along with the special effects. That was. Amazing. Super cool.

Judges raving and screaming. Derek says in the mentoring session they wanted it to feel cinematic – and that was it. Derek says they altered reality – and they kinda did. Derek says they had more dancing and he loved the culture. The tricks are amazing. Ne-Yo says their heads touched the lights. He’s without words. Jennifer says they surprised her and she didn’t think they could do that. She says it wasn’t the tricks it was the narrative. Jlo loses her wig and that pretty much sums it up.

They might have just won the show, unless Ellie and Ava do something incredible.

Here we go with Ellie and Ava. Derek speaks his second sentence during all mentoring. I hope these girls kill it.

The staging is gorgeous. The costumes are beautiful. Wow. These two are so in cynic’s it’s beautiful to watch. I loved how they seemed to silhouette each other. Gorgeous.

I still think the Kings might have this in the bag. How can a beautiful contemporary routine compete with the power of The Kings? Will contemporary ever win??

Jennifer says they are one of the most beautiful duets they’ve ever seen on the stage. She says together they are even better, it’s magical. Ne-Yo says they should be proud. Derek says that dancing with a family member is so special and they should soak it in. Money can’t buy it. Jennifer says she’s not surprised they are there. They were breath taking. Derek says he could talk about the technical, but he’s been moved all season. I forgot they are only 13 and 15 until Derek said it. If they’re that good now…

Well, I’ll be surprised if anyone other than the Kings win it. I’m not mad about it – they earned it tonight. But I do wonder if a group like Unity LA or dancers like Ellie & Ava ever have a shot to win against a high energy group like The Kings. I mean, season 1 was won by Les Twins who were cool hip hop. Season 2 was won by The Lab who I adored, but who were also young hip hoppers. The show seems designed to reward that higher energy. And I confess to not normally preferring contemporary – but when it’s done well I love it. But can it win on this show. It’d be funny if Unity LA won after all this commentary. We’ll see in a minute.

Okay, here we go!!

Scores:

Ellie & Ava: 94, 95, 96 for an average of 95

Briar Nolet: 92, 92, 94 for an average of 92.7 and she’s out with not enough points to beat Ellie & Ava. She’s very gracious in defeat.

VPeepz: 94, 91, 96 for an average of 93.7 which is not enough to beat Ellie & Ava (although Derek scored them high). And Derek gives them a great pep talk.

Now we’re down to three…the judges say nice things about the three remaining teams.

Unity LA: 95, 94, 98 for an average of 95.7 which puts them in first place. This is probably how I would have placed the first four.

The Kings are going to score big, I think.

The Kings: 100, 100, 100 and that’s that. Well deserved. I love seeing how happy they are.

Well, that was a damn good season, IMO. What say you??

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Who Do You Think Will Win World of Dance Season 3?? (Vote)

It about that time!!Β  Tomorrow we find out who wins season three!!

Although Unity LA is my favorite, I think The Kings are going to win it. Actually, this is always better done in two questions: Who SHOULD win (or who do you want to win)…and Who WILL Win?? Tell us what you think now, before it happens. πŸ™‚

Finally, a little treat…Derek Hough answering JLo’s challenge. πŸ™‚

World of Dance Season 3, Week 10 – Who Won that Pesky Wild Card?? (SPOILER, plus Vote)

Well, this is a tough one. Twelve acts performed on Sunday night and only four made it through…along with one mystery act who they very cruelly left until next week. The Wild Card. Well, I had a suspicion of who it was (not that anyone reading this blog will believe this) and I was right!! If you want to know, you’ll have to scroll to the end after all of my blather. πŸ˜‰

There are a couple things to look at and points to make, as I make my case for who got it.

  • None of the junior division dancers got it because the dances seemed very edited.
  • Only two teams scored 100s in their final dance and one is already in the finale…the other isn’t.
  • The composition of the finale – they already have a contemporary duo, a bolly hop team, a hip hop team and a contemporary single.
  • Last season a Junior Hip Hop Team won (The Lab) and in season 1 a hip hop duo won (Les Twins – thanks JLo, bad call IMO).

Let’s recap the possible contenders for the Wild Card slot. From the Junior Division we have:

Julian & Charlize (95.7)
Kayla Mak (95.3)

You can re-watch their dances in a previous post…both beautiful routines. But…I don’t think they’re the Wild Card because we already have two hip hop teams in there and we already have a contemporary single. Also, their scores aren’t as high as I would like for a finalist.

From the Junior Team Division, we have:

Dancetown Divas (95.7)
The Crazy 8’s (93)

You can watch their routines in a previous post as well. The little nuggets (Crazy 8s) won’t be the wild card mainly because their limitations are starting to show. Only natural since they are so young. Amazing, but no. Dancetown Divas?? For whatever reason, latin/ballroom don’t seem to get a fair shake on this show – even from Derek half the time. I don’t think they’re going to make it, although they should.

Next, the Upper Division:

Poppin’ John (95)
Derion & Madison (92)

Check out their routines at the link. So why not Poppin’ John?? Well, I think he’s shown us all he has and is not dynamic enough for the finale. As for Derion and Madison? Low Score plus lots of hip hop already.

And finally, the Upper Team Division – which I’m pretty sure contains the Wild Card winner. πŸ™‚

Unity LA (98.7)
The Heima (93.3)

Now, it’s not going to be the Heima because there are already two hip hop teams in the finale, not to mention that they seemed to run out of gas a bit in their last routine. Their scores are trending downward. Unity LA on the other hand got 100s from Derek and Ne-Yo and they keep getting better every week. They had the highest score of ANYONE not already going to the finale, plus a higher score than EVERYONE in the finale except the Kings. Plus a contemporary group is rather unusual – lots of contemporary singles and duos, but a group of this size?? That’s usually reserved for hip hop. So, that’s why I thought they would be the Wild Card.

If E! is to be believed, they did get the wild card. Funny, I posted the video of Derek dancing yesterday and didn’t notice that they spoiled who won the wild card. πŸ™‚

Five acts remain in the competition heading into the world final this weekend: Briar Nolet (Upper division), The Kings (Upper Team), Ellie and Ava (Junior division), VPeepz (Junior Team), and Unity LA (Wildcard).

Those acts will each dance twice, and whoever comes out with the higher average score will be named the season three world champion.

So, is Unity LA a good choice for you? Or do you want someone else to win the Wild Card?? Vote below!
